Book Cover Concept
Date: June, 2010
Client: Stephen Fleming
Project Type: Graphic Design
Dr. Stephen Fleming contacted me regarding the cover design of his book. He was unimpressed with the stock photos that Routledge was trying to pawn off on him. After some discussion, he told me that his ideal cover would emphasize his idea of "the house of refracting glass," a central metaphor from the book and I believe the original title of the manuscript. He also noted that a concept was needed more or less immediately. Working late into the night, I modified one of my algorithmic techniques to give the text a refracted quality and sent back a rough blocking of a cover. While the technique worked, it was clear that it just wouldn't gel with the title the publishers demanded. One for the kill file.
