SenseCam Project

Date: October-November, 2008
Client: Knowledge Media Design Institute, University of Toronto
Project Type: Interaction Design

SenseCams are small, automatic, wearable cameras designed by Microsoft Research. There is a strong interest in the possibility that these cameras could be used in aiding those with memory loss.

KMDI has established itself as a leader in digital technology and memory loss research and are a part of this work. A key aspect of their line of inquiry is the comparison of SenseCams to more classical media (photography, audio recordings) in aiding memory.

SenseCams, in an hour or so, tend to take hundreds (or thousands) of highly experiential photos, many of which are not useful. It may be important to cull some of these images to better represent an outing or event.

OFID was contracted to design a digital system to be used in research trials for the selection and manipulation of the photos. OFID has responded with a hyper simplified interface that imitates a clinical setting with its featureless white expanses.
