Virtual Museum of Housing

Date: October-November, 2008
Client: Institute Without Boundaries
Project Type: Interaction Design, Exhibit Design, Concept Development

Web 2.0 technologies allow for visitors to submit their own content, making for richer websites. Websites, like Wikipedia or YouTube, are completely composed of user-generated and edited content. In a sense, these websites can be viewed as massive, self-organizing museums, without fixed collections or curation.

OFID developed a concept for a digital museum of Canadian housing. The museum will be a database of houses that explores how Canadians deal with the need for shelter. Structured by frameworks developed at the Institute Without Boundaries and powered by Web 2.0 technologies, the museum will allow for content generated by researchers to exist along side submissions from visitors.
